Contributing to a positive climate change solution
At Frontera we understand that the environment belongs to all of us; we are aware that we have the responsibility to guarantee tomorrow’s generations, including our own children, a greener and cleaner future.
Therefore, we are carrying out different actions aimed at contributing to a positive climate change solution. One of them is the construction of a solar park in the CPE-6 block, located in Meta, to reduce emissions.
The park is still under construction and its inauguration is expected for the second half of 2023. With this project, the company seeks to achieve a reduction in CO2 emissions equivalent to 8,500 tons of CO2/year.
On the other hand, we are implementing the SAARA project, the largest water treatment plant in the world associated with an oil project, as part of our commitment to a circular economy.
At SAARA we treat the water from the Rubiales field of Ecopetrol and the Quifa field of Frontera to bring it to the highest standard for the irrigation of an existing (non-food) oil palm crop of more than 3,000 hectares. Contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint.
Finally, we joined the ‘One Trillion Trees – 1t.org’ movement launched by the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January 2020, with the global goal of conserving, restoring and planting one trillion trees by 2030.
We pledged to preserve and restore 2,500 hectares of biological corridors in environmentally strategic areas in the territories where we operate by 2027, which would be equivalent to approximately 2.6 million trees, contributing to the fight against deforestation.
